Our Story...

Welcome to Hope That Soars, where together, with my husband Ryan, we navigate the messiness of life by pointing people to the HOPE found in a relationship with Jesus.
Our journey is filled with heartache and the daily struggle of chronic illness, scripted by a loving Creator.
It is through Him we find LOVE, JOY, and STRENGTH to press forward.

I pray you will join us as we share life lessons gained through mishap, adventures, and everything in between. Perhaps somewhere along the way, you too will find, a HOPE that SOARS!

Capturing Moments

“Don’t you look super cute in this pic,” she remarked.

Immediately dismissing the compliment, I focused her attention to my glaring flaws.

I mean, just in case she was missing the obvious.

Everyone does this-

Right?

Surely I am not the only one who sees a snapshot and immediately begins to mentally tear it apart?

As if it’s my sacred duty to point out what others must be thinking…

a fruitless attempt at safeguarding my ego from possible criticism.

Heaven forbid, I have photographic evidence when I am not at my “goal” weight, and my imperfections are captured for posterity.

Maybe, just maybe, I should take a closer peek.

This time, however, I needed to try viewing the image through her lenses.

Sure, she may have noticed the swelling in my legs because of new medication.

She could have zeroed in on the giant sweat stains. Or the laugh lines, that appear with age.

But perhaps what caught her attention was my expression.

I looked genuinely happy.

Or maybe she was celebrating the effort it took for me to attend.

My ability to hide excruciating pain behind sunglasses and a cheerful disposition.

After all, this photo worthy moment captured an incredible milestone.

Upon closer scrutiny, I was able to dismiss the superficial flaws.

What leaps off the page now?

LOVE!

Plain and simple.

Love displayed in a cast of awkward, weary, anxious, joyful, and perfectly imperfect people.

A family saved by God’s grace, who choose to walk through life, together.

It is a moment that will forever be ingrained, as the passage of time alters our current reality.

As we continually strive to live a life of worship, dear reader- would you consider joining me in choosing to be present, in love…

Not focusing on what “should be” rather, treasuring what is.

So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love,”

1 Corinthians 13:13
