It’s what we do!
A sincere “thank you” crossed my lips, on our drive home.
After a month of preparation and overwhelming emotion, I sat in awe of my husband’s genuine kindness.
He quickly responded, “it’s what we do.”
In recent years, I had forgotten this unique aspect of our relationship.
The easy give and take of our personalities.
His endearing charm and my organizational prowess; God-ordained, to ensure comfort and ease in the most difficult settings.
Our use of these gifts were not manufactured out of obligation, rather, as an answer to the calling placed on our lives from day one.
After years stuck in the waiting, his comment served to remind me of God’s plan for our sacred union.
As quickly as these thoughts surfaced… realization struck that somewhere along our journey, we had entertained Satan’s lies.
Untruths, spewed by humans, left us questioning our purpose.
From their perspective, our usefulness within a “body of believers” had essentially been rendered lacking.
Harsh criticism that required internal reflection and much needed healing.
We had become prime targets for Satan’s attacks.
His singular goal for us, as Christ followers… to destroy, by any means necessary. [John 10:10, John 8:44]
If Satan can ignite chaos and division among God’s people, he considers that a “win.”
“For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.” James 3:17, NLT
As Christians, what must we do in order to guard against such attacks?
1. Recognize: Occasionally we tangle the enemy’s schemes, with a person or people.
Although we may be on the receiving end of unkindness from fellow believers… it is important to recognize that oftentimes, our sources of conflict are a result of Satan’s attempts to take us out.
Ephesians 6:12, warns us that our battle is not against flesh and blood, rather it is with powers of darkness.
If we constantly question God’s plan for our lives, solely based on these attacks, we inevitably become vulnerable.
Our efforts for the kingdom, potentially stilted by fighting relentless battles.
2. Repent: Once we recognize the source of the attacks; next, we must reflect on our response and determine if repentance is warranted.
Harboring unforgiveness and bitterness toward real or perceived offenders, provides Satan a foothold in our lives.
Honest reflection and repentance promotes growth, while posturing our hearts and minds toward receiving God’s instruction.
“My [only] sacrifice [acceptable] to God is a broken spirit; A broken and contrite heart [broken with sorrow for sin].
Psalm 51:17, AMP
“Therefore produce fruit consistent with repentance…” Matthew 3:8, NASB
“This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength…” Isaiah 30:15, NIV
3. Reposition: As our healing progresses, the final step involves firmly repositioning God’s armor.
This head to toe spiritual garment is specifically designed to ward off attacks of the enemy.
By placing our faith in the power of God’s armor, we develop a sensitivity toward the Spirit which will aide in combating future lies, with truth.
“…Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-bloodwork enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:11-17, NLT
Perhaps God’s calling on your life is creating havoc in the unseen realm.
Good! That means you must be doing something right.
Nevertheless, you need to guard your steps against Satan’s schemes.
May I offer this final word of encouragement…
NOTHING that the enemy throws in your path, to derail your purpose, has the power to separate you from God’s love. [Romans 8:31-39]
God is for you, dear reader, and it is His desire that you walk boldly in His promises for your future.
